Bailey Klinger

Bailey Klinger is CEO & co-founder of the Entrepreneurial Finance Lab. He is the original co-inventor of the EFL technology, and has led both the research and business initiatives to bring that technology to the market. His previous research has centered on entrepreneurship, structural transformation, and private sector growth in developing countries, and he has been published in leading Journals such as Science and the Journal of the Economics of Transition. Bailey has performed extensive field research throughout Latin America, Africa and Asia, and consulted for the World Bank, United Nations and Inter-American Development Bank as well as various other national governments and international organizations. Bailey has a Masters in Public Administration in International Development from the Kennedy School of Government, and a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University.
Asim Khwaja

Asim Khwaja is co-founder of EFL and Chairman of the Board. He is also professor of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. His areas of interest include economic development, finance, education, political economy, institutions, and contract theory/mechanism design. His research has been published in the leading economics journals, such as the American Economic Review and the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and has received coverage media outlets such as the Economist, NY Times, Washington Post, Al-Jazeera, BBC, and CNN. Asim received BS degrees in economics and mathematics with computer science from MIT and PhD in economics from Harvard.
Dennis [DJ] DiDonna

Dennis [DJ] DiDonna is Chief Operating Officer of EFL. He is an experienced entrepreneur, with a sales, management, and operations background in the tech start-up space. DJ has also worked in micro-finance and development in Africa and Latin America and is currently based in Johannesburg. He received his B.A. in International Relations from Notre Dame and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Jared Miller

Jared Miller is the Director for Latin America at EFL. Before joining EFL, Jared most recently served as a Vice-President of Citigroup and held positions in their Consumer and Institutional Clients businesses. Jared was part of the team at CGAP/World Bank that launched Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) and managed MIX’s Latin America operations and office. He also opened and managed the Latin American offices of Planet Rating SAS – a global rating agency specialized in microfinance – and was an instructor of risk management in the Boulder Microfinance Training Program. Jared has a B.A. from Middlebury College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Darrell Grissen

Darrell Grissen is Chief Technology Officer of EFL. Darrell has broad technology and startup experience, most recently as part of a management team that opened US-based software company ExactTarget's first international office in London, England. In addition to his most recent international position, Darrell had a variety of key roles at ExactTarget in systems, sales engineering, and product management as the company grew from 70 people to 1000 worldwide. He received his B.S. in Finance and International Studies from Indiana University Bloomington and has an M.Sc in Computer Science from Imperial College London.
Tunde Adepoju

Tunde Adepoju oversees EFL business development in West Africa. Tunde is an experienced entrepreneur with background in banking and finance. His banking experience spans domestic and international operations, credit analysis, business development, risk management, and turnaround management. He has worked with major Nigerian banks and a discount house at senior management level. His entrepreneurship experience focuses on financial and business advisory services for start ups and small businesses. Tunde has B.Sc degree in Accounting and he is a chartered accountant. He also attended Senior Management Program (SMP) of Lagos Business School (in affiliation with IESE Spain) and Harvard Business School, Comprehensive General Management Program (GMP).
Emily Silberstein

Emily Silberstein manages business development and operations out of EFL's Boston office. She manages the expansion of EFL's business to new regions, coordinates new R&D initiatives and develops the operational systems necessary to enable EFL's work to scale worldwide. Emily has a background in financial inclusion, with a focus on India where she has done project work in impact investing, microfinance, mobile payments and SME lending. Emily began her career at the nonprofit consulting firm, Root Cause, where she managed a venture philanthropy program and public-private partnerships. Emily has a MBA from Harvard Business School, a Master's Degree in International Development from the London School of Economics, and a BA from Amherst College.
Maddie Brandenburger

Maddie is an Implementation and Business Development Associate at EFL. Prior to joining EFL, Maddie worked as an IDEX Fellow with Gray Matters Capital in Hyderabad, India, researched microfinance in East Africa, and worked at Grameen Foundation in Washington, DC. Maddie graduated from Wake Forest University with an Economics Major and Double Minor in International Development Policy and Anthropology.
Natalia Carranza

Natalia Carranza is an Account Manager at EFL. Natalia supports the implementation of EFL risk analysis tools with Financial Institutions throughout the region. Natalia, a Citizen of Colombia, has worked in financial analysis and cost controlling in France and social performance analysis of financial institutions in Latin America. Natalia holds a B.A in Finance and International Affairs from Universidad Externado de Colombia and completed her last year of her B.A degree at Audencia Nantes School of Management in France. Natalia graduated from the European Microfinance Programme in Brussels in 2012.
Joseph LaMonte

Joseph LaMonte is EFL's Legal & Strategy Advisor and an Account Manager for Latin America. He is responsible for coordinating implementations of the EFL Tool in the Latin America region, performing regulatory and legal reviews for new markets, and helping to prepare and structure EFL's wider international expansion. Prior to joining EFL, Joseph practiced business litigation in the United States. He received his B.A. in Economics and Chemistry from Cornell University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan School of Law.
Ross Mytton

Ross Mytton is EFL’s Account Manager in Indonesia. He has spent the better part of the last five years working in microfinance and international development in West Africa, India, Haiti, and Indonesia. With a passion for extending economic opportunities to unbanked/underserved entrepreneurs, Ross leverages his experience in developing markets to assist clients in the implementation and management of the EFL suite of risk analytics tools. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in International Relations and Spanish, and also holds an MBA from ESADE in Barcelona with a focus on Entrepreneurial Finance and Social Enterprise.
Juan Luis Podestá

Juan Luis Podestá is Account Manager for the Latin America region and is based in Lima, Peru. Juan Luis is responsible for managing the implementation of the EFL Tool, maintaining EFL’s partner relationships, as well as helping define the EFL market strategy and roadmap for the region. Prior to joining EFL, Juan Luis worked at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington DC, Mexico and Peru, developing and supporting advisory services projects, for Access to Finance in Latin America, particularly targeted to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). Before joining the IFC, Juan Luis gained financial and banking experience in two of the largest banks in Peru, acquiring expertise in SME and retail banking, profitability analysis and project management. Juan Luis holds a B.A. in Economics from the Universidad de Lima and holds a joint MBA degree from McCombs School of Business from the University of Texas at Austin and Universidad ESAN in Peru.

Luke Shankland

Luke Shankland is EFL's Account Manager for Africa. After beginning his career in logistics and project management in the extractive industries, Luke worked as a field coordinator with Doctors Without Borders in Nigeria, Chad-Sudan, C.A.R. and Pakistan. Luke has managed teams of up to 250 people in fast-moving and challenging contexts and has a passion for using his organizing skills and strategic insights to bring new and innovative solutions to emerging markets. He has a B.A in Philosophy and Mathematics from MacGill University and an IMBA from the Schulich School of Business where he studied finance and strategy.

Claudia Gonzalez is a Product Specialist at EFL. Claudia co-manages innovations in data and operations for the EFL product suite. Claudia joins EFL from HSBC Mexico where she developed internal methodologies to evaluate the credit risk of medium and large companies. Claudia helped export the experience gained in the Mexican market to other countries within HSBC Latin America, including Brazil and Argentina. Claudia holds a B.S. degree in Actuarial Sciences at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM).
Renato Sabato

Renato co-manages innovations in data and operations for the EFL product suite and implementations of EFL's risk analysis tools. Renato joins EFL from McKinsey & Company where he consulted for multiple projects including commercial strategic redesign, operational turnaround, and a sustainability enhancement for an entire Brazilian sector. Renato has also worked as an intern at Porsche Engineering Services and Whirlpool. Renato holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo and a B.A. degree in business administration from Mackenzie University.
Paola Franco

Paola Franco is the Manager of Finance and Administration. She has an undergraduate degree in accounting and a masters in corporate finance from Peru's top business schools. Prior to joining EFL, Paola worked in the private sector in leading companies like Arthur Andersen Consulting, BellSouth, Bosch Siemens and Hyundai in a variety of accounting, operational, and managerial positions; then she worked for the government, first at the Ministry of Justice followed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Tourism, where she held senior management positions, spearheaded a number of process re-engineering and efficiency improvement projects, and lead financial and logistical support for the team negotiating the free trade agreement with the US.
Penelope Silva

Penelope Silva is the Communications Manager at EFL. She oversees management of EFL’s marketing initiatives including branding, promotional media, and a variety of other print and digital communication resources. Prior to joining EFL, Penelope worked in Investor Relations at Fortress Investment Group, LLC in New York. She worked on all aspects of corporate communications including press releases, maintenance of corporate websites, conferences, shareholder meeting coordination, as well as supervised marketing updates and company performance metrics. She also brings experience in industry research, qualitative benchmark reporting, and design of customer product information as a former Consultant at The Healthcare Management Council in Boston. Penelope holds a B.A. degree in Mandarin from Williams College and has studied at The Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing, The National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, and the University of Guadalajara in Mexico.
Kyle Meade

Kyle Meade is EFL’s Product Manager. He has been with EFL since 2009 moving with EFL from the research group at Harvard University to the private organization. He has worked closely with banks throughout Africa implementing EFL’s technology and has helped coordinate projects in Asia and South America for EFL. He holds an international bachelor of business administration from York University's Schulich School Business and has also studied at the University of Cape Town, Fudan University and Chulalongkorn University.

Alicia Casuso is the Systems Developer at EFL responsible for analyzing, designing, implementing and supporting internal applications and processes. She has extensive experience as manager and developer of software solutions for international companies of all sizes ranging from startups to Fortune 1000. Alicia has an advanced degree in Computer Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Canada.
Víctor Otazú

Víctor Otazú is the database analyst at EFL. He is in charge of designing, creating and maintaining EFL databases in order to manage, organize and visualize its information. He is also responsible for the EFL scoring process and is the link between the EFL analytics and technology team. Before joining EFL, Víctor worked at Crediscotia Financiera, a subsidiary of Scotiabank Perú, for the Business Intelligence Department. He has experience in software development and expertise in business intelligence solutions. He holds a B. SE. degree in Software Engineering from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicas.
Roger Alvarado

Roger is a Platform Analyst at EFL, and among other responsibilities is in charge of the development of the EFL Application for each of our Partners. Roger has broad IT experience including leading implementations of ERP systems. He previously worked at a microfinance institution implementing QA process for software development. He graduated as a Systems Analyst from Cibertec, a Peruvian IT institute, and is currently studying Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC).
Daniel Stallworth

Daniel is an Analytics & Developer Intern at EFL, working with the Product & Technology team. He is currently pursuing a bachelors of science degree in Management Science from MIT and previously worked on creating a Financial Wellbeing Report with The Institute for Financial Management and Research in Chennai, India. In the course of life Daniel discovered how large of an influence finance had on the daily lives of everyone in the world. One of his main goals has become to facilitate closure of gaps in financial literacy and access.
Carlos del Carpio

Carlos del Carpio is Head of Analytics in EFL's Lima office, responsible for data quality control, analysis, and model building. Prior to joining EFL, Carlos worked for the largest commercial bank in Perú where he developed credit risk models for corporate clients using a variety of credit scoring technologies. Carlos has research experience in credit and market risk modeling, as well specialized training in financial economics and applied econometrics. He holds a B.A. in economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

Evelyn Gutierrez is a Junior Analyst at EFL. She is responsible for the creation, customization, and troubleshooting of the EFL assessments as well as assisting the Analytics team with monitoring and analyzing assessment results. Michael Frese is a psychological advisor to EFL, and Professor at the National University of Singapore and Leuphana University of Luenburg. He is the former President of the International Association of Applied Psychology, former editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology: An International Review, and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Journal of Small Business Management, and Journal of Business Venturing, amongst others. Professor Frese has authored more than 20 books and 250 articles, and was an editor of the book ‘The Psychology of Entrepreneurship’ as well as the special editions on ‘Entrepreneurship in Africa’ in the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship and ‘Psychological Approaches to Entrepreneurship’ of the Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology.

His core area of research is on psychological success factors of entrepreneurship, specifically on how to measure those success factors and how they can be influenced through training programs. This work extends to how training can be delivered through scalable technological platforms. In addition to psychology, Thorsten has significant training and experience in information technology and programming.

Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic is a psychological advisor to EFL, and an international authority in personality and psychological profiling. He is a Reader at Goldsmiths College, Research Fellow at UCL, Visiting Professor at NYU, and has previously lectured at the London School of Economics. He has published more than 100 scientific articles and 5 books. Dr Tomas has held the Chair of Learning and Teaching for Goldsmiths' Psychology department and is currently Head of Employability and Engagement.

Gorkan Ahmetoglu is a psychological advisor to EFL, and a Visiting Lecturer of Psychology at University of London and an Occupational Psychologist specializing in personnel selection and development. His core areas of research include Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Romantic Relationships, and Consumer Psychology. He is an expert in psychometric analysis and personality test development. Gorkan has published numerous articles in leading journals, and the publication of his book (co-authored by Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic) is expected in early 2012.
